About FanDuel Sportsbook and Horse Racing

Collinsville is home to thoroughbred racing venue FanDuel Sportsbook and Horse Racing, an area in Illinois but actually only 15 minutes from downtown St Louis, Missouri. The track also used to host standardbred harness racing, though that was shelved back in 1999 as management concentrated on thoroughbreds.

Simulcast wagering is offered at the site in order for bettors to punt on tracks all across the country, while FanDuel Sportsbook and Horse Racing also operates four off-track betting facilities around Illinois (formerly five).

Once the champion sprinter of North America, the excellent Smile was the winner of the 1985 Fairmount Derby under hall of fame jockey Jacinto Vasquez at this track and is remembered fondly by all at the venue.

FanDuel Sportsbook and Horse Racing History

Fairmount Park opened its doors to the public way back in 1925 and was seen as a success from the off. It was bought by the Ogden Corp in 1969 and again went from strength to strength for decades after that.

By the time 1997 rolled around, Fairmount Park had as many as 232 days of live racing in a year making it one of the busiest and most successful tracks anywhere in the country.

This success started to wane as competition was supplied by the advent of the riverboat casinos in and around St Louis, meaning a drop in action. A few years ago racing dates had gone down to around 90 per year and now only 40 or so are planned in.

After struggling to gain more race days on the track and also with putting slot machines and lottery terminals into the facility, Ogden eventually sold the facility in 2000 seemingly thinking the outlook was rather bleak. It’s all about quality rather than quantity these days though as the track is still going strong.

There is a one-mile dirt oval at FanDuel Sportsbook and Horse Racing with chutes for both six furlong and ten furlong races. No turf track exists at the facility.
